Pilot

In May 2017, with the support of Sunderland City Council, Harbin Foreign Affairs Office and Harbin Education Bureau, Tornado English Platform had a three-week trial among 1200 students in 6 primary schools in Harbin. The trial was led by the University of Edinburgh where researchers investigated teachers, students and parents’ attitudes towards and suggestions for Tornado products.

Our research team has visited all English teachers involved in the trial to understand their needs in daily English teaching and gathered their suggestions and advice towards our product improvement. All teachers have expressed great interest in our bilingual animation as it is fun and connects well with all knowledge points students learn in the classroom. Students can then utilise the knowledge learned in real life scenarios and this has greatly aroused the students' motivation in learning and improved cross-cultural awareness. Many teachers built our animation into their actual teaching activities and received positive response from the students.

Pilot Results

During the trial in Harbin, students showed great enthusiasm in the animation and games. Nearly 800 students registered with Tornado English by the end of May in 2017.
